Has anyone ever tried a tandem beach cruiser on the Playa? Saw one on the Wally world web site and hubby is saying it is "too heavy" for the playa...As I don't trust him - am searching for answers from the tribe.

if the tires are wide, it's probably fine. just make sure you've got low gearing. soem people are pedaling huge contraptions with low enough gearing and WIDE tires.

got a pic of the proposed ride?

Just looking on the Wallyworld site. The yellow hawaiian named one.

We took one last year, its a Worksman tandem which is heavy but managable. Unfortunately last year was a bad year for any bike due to the dunes. Daytime riding was ok but it was tough to manuver at night through the crowds.

I thrashed a brand new trike last year in the first 100 yards of trying to ride. Sheared the pins in the tranny trying to get through the playa dust. Have a beach cruiser for stand by but was hoping a tandem might also work. Probably will walk again if the playa isn't any better. Thanks for all the tips.
